Childbirth

“A Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant” is paid when an insured person gives birth. “A Dependents' Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant” is paid when a dependent family member gives birth. Don't forget to add the newborn as a dependent in these cases.

Request a Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant

When using the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions

Submit the documents on agreement to use the system to the medical care institution or other facility where you plan to give birth. (You need not take any action with respect to the Health Insurance Society. For details, check with the medical care institution or other facility where you plan to give birth.)

  • ** You do not need to apply the additional Lump-sum Grant benefit for childbirth and childcare.
    Because Accenture Health Insurance Society will process the additional Lump-sum Grant benefit when the medical institution bills Accenture Health Insurance Society for 500,000 yen in childbirth expenses two to three months after the birth.

When using the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf

If you would like to use the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf, submit the following application to the Health Insurance Society in advance.

Required documents:
  • The Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant additional benefits for Insured Person or Family Member System of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf
    (With the seal or signature of the medical institution that will receive the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly on your behalf and other necessary information.)
Deadline: In advance
Applies to: Insured persons and dependents expecting childbirth up to two months in the future who wish to use the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf

If you paid the entire amount of childbirth expenses to the medical care institution

Submit the following application to the Health Insurance Society if you have not used the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions or the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf or you have given birth overseas.

Required documents:
  • The Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant additional benefits for Insured Person or Family Member
    [If not using the system of direct payment to medical institutions, or if childbirth took place outside of Japan]
    (Two documents are required: (1) a certification from your doctor or midwife or a copy of the birth certificate and (2) a copy of the municipal government's certification section from your maternity health record book.)

[Documents to attach]

  • Copies of agreements from the medical care institution or other facility
    (documents demonstrating that you have not concluded a proxy agreement with the medical care institution or other facility on use of the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions and indicating the name of the Health Insurance Society as application recipient)
  • Copies of receipts for and details of childbirth expenses
    (Documents demonstrating that you have concluded a proxy agreement with the medical care institution or other facility to use the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions and, if giving birth at an institution that is a member of the maternity medical care compensation scheme, showing printed or stamped text certifying that the childbirth took place at a member institution)
Deadline: As soon as possible
Applies to: Insured persons or dependents who have paid the entire amount of childbirth expense at the medical care institution without using the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions or the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf

Notes: The following documents must be attached for a childbirth overseas:
  • Documents issued by the overseas medical care institution or other facility where the birth took place (birth certificate, receipts, etc.)
  • Japanese translations of the above
  • A copy of document(s) attesting to the fact of travel overseas (passport, etc.)
  • A letter of consent permitting inquiries with the overseas medical care institution or other facility where the birth took place regarding the fact of the birth, details, and so forth

Add the child

After the child is born, take the necessary steps to add him or her as a dependent.
